The Dignan family chose to homeschool their children partly because Randy Dignan, a pastor, is invited to speak often and wanted his family to travel with him. While homeschool has afforded the family flexibility as far as where and which hours of the day they do school, it has also created obstacles. Particularly as the children reached high school, they were not allowed to participate in local public school sports. There are homeschool leagues available, but, especially for Grant Dignan's football team, those leagues can be located in Springfield, creating a six-hour round trip just for practices.
